Leadership Incentive Program

Background LIP Questionnaire
What is SWE Leadership Incentive Program (LIP)?

The SWE-PNW Leadership Incentive Program, updated and reintroduced for FY01, was developed (originally by the FY95 Executive Committee) in accordance with the Society's strategic plan to establish and encourage programs that provide leadership and management skills development to enhance career, personal and SWE growth.  This program also serves to encourage members to actively participate in Section activities and derive maximum benefits from being a SWE member.

Suzanne Hakam was one of the main the developers of the program in FY95 (the original idea was inspired by the Detroit Section's Engineer of the Year awards and Toastmasters International's Club recognition program) and helped re-introduce it in FY01 which continues on to this date.

Throughout the year, members of the section will receive points for attending or participating in various events both SWE and non-SWE related.  At the end of the year, members with 7 or more points will be recognized at the annual Spring Banquet and will get to choose from various prizes purchased/donated for the event including the chance to win a free SWE Membership renewal for the next fiscal year.

It is easy to start collecting points, and the tallying starts over every year, so if you weren't able to accumulate 7 or more points last year, you have a brand new chance at it this year!

Below are some examples of how you can earn LIP points:

- Renew your SWE National Membership by Sept 30th
- Sponsor a New Member or Bring a Friend to a Meeting
- Membership Upgrades
- Personal Accomplishments like earning a degree or finishing a marathon
- Attending a SWE Regional Conference or ABJ Conference
- Attending the SWE National Conference
- Attending a SWE PNW Executive Council Meeting
- Participating on a SWE PNW committee
- Chairing a SWE PNW committee
- Count towards a quorum at a business meeting
- Attend a SWE PNW Event
- Participate in a Career Guidence activity within SWE
- Attend a SWE PNW General meeting (like Google tour, MOHAI Tour, Self Defense Class, December Social, or any of our upcoming events)
- Participate in a Career Guidance activity within SWE (like the SWE Shadow Program)
- Participate in a Career Guidance activity outside of SWE (like Northwest Girls Collaborative, Girl Scouts, etc)
- Participate in a Professional Development activity within SWE (like the SWE web-seminars)
- Participate in a Professional Development activity outside of SWE (like PSEC mentor nights, engineers fair, etc)
- Submit a newsletter article
- Present a paper, poster, or presentation at a conference (SWE or non-SWE)
- Staff the SWE booth at the PSEC Engineer's Fair
- Submit an in-kind donation to the section (like for the LIP prizes)
- Attend another society's general meeting (PSEC, AIAA, SME, etc)

These are just some examples of how you can start collecting points. If you attend/participate in one of the events above more than once, you will get a point for each time you participate/attend. In addition, if you feel another event or activity should count towards an LIP point, let me know!

Deadline to submit the LIP point is June 10, 2008 and I will send out an email reminder two weeks prior to the deadline. If you have any questions about the Leadership Incentive Program, please do not hesitate to contact me at Davida.Gondohusodo@SWE.org.

So, click on the LIP Questionnaire tab now and submit your information! Thank you for your participation and I hope to see you at our 2008 Banquet.
