Sandy Postel was
named vice president of Boeing Production System (BPS)
Strategy in February 2008, where she is responsible for
providing overall strategy leadership and direction
across Commercial Airplanes' value streams, management
of the Lean Enterprise Office (LEO); and interface to
ensure linkages between production system transformation
efforts and the Boeing Lean+ initiative.
Postel leads BPS strategy in addition to her continuing
role as vice president/general manager of Propulsion
Systems where she directs the team who provides
engineering and manufacturing integration prior to
customer delivery as well as aftermarket support for
more than 13,000 airplanes in the commercial fleet
worldwide. Under her leadership, Propulsion Systems
relocated build operations to final assembly feeder
lines as part of value stream transformation.
Previously, Postel served four years as Commercial
Airplanes' vice president of Quality responsible for
improving the quality management system and maintaining
Boeing's production certificate with the FAA. Her other
manufacturing leadership experience includes interim
president of Boeing Winnipeg; director of operations for
the 777ER/LR Program and director of the Interiors
Responsibility Center, Composite Manufacturing Center
and Process Assembly business units. Postel began her
Boeing career in 1979 as a chemical process engineer for
Manufacturing Research & Development, where she was
promoted to senior manager of technology, strategy and
development and then to director.
A distinguished alumnus at Purdue University, Postel
earned a Bachelor's degree in biology and currently
serves on the university's engineering advisory council.
She completed a Master's degree in Natural Science at
the University of Wyoming as well as advanced management
programs at Harvard Business School and Duke University.
Postel was honored in 2007 by the Society of Women
Engineers with its Upward Mobility Award for outstanding
technical management at the senior level and service as
a role model, leader, and advocate for diversity. She
also received the 2005 affirmative action award of
excellence from Boeing Global Diversity and Employee
Rights. Postel is active on boards for IAM/Boeing Joint
Programs and Washington Special Olympics. Her personal
